FMCSA Releases, then Retracts, OSA Recommendations

On Friday April 20th, the Federal Carrier Safety Administration released proposed guidelines on medical certification of commercial motor vehicle drivers. The recommendations were released for public comment and would eventually become official guidance for Medical Examiners to determine a truck driver's ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

However, a week later the FMCSA withdrew the regulatory guidance. Apparently the Agency is still in the process of reviewing the recommendations submitted by the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) and Medical Review Board (MRB).

The FMCSA stated last Friday's initial release was a clerical error, and the recommendations for public comment will be released later this year.
